WHO WE ARE
Connect Helpers is a student led initiative that aims to create a welcoming community by empowering domestic helpers and asylum seekers through educational workshops, activities and support. Our vision is to create a community where migrant minorities can thrive. We want to promote a community they can depend upon.
We created initiative after seeing countless actions of mistreatment throughout our local community towards what society deems as the "invisible" group of women.
OUR ACTIVITIES
As Connect Helpers, we work on many exciting projects to help support asylum seekers and migrant workers, and are very proud of the progress we continue to make. Learn more about what we do, who we help, and how we work to promote positive change within our community.
DONATION DRIVES
Due to the increased covid stress the 5th Wave of the pandemic has brought residents of Hong Kong, domestic helpers and asylum seekers are the minority group that have suffered the most.
Due to the increased price of food items and increased amount sanitary products (testing kids, masks, hand sanitizer etc) that needs to be paid for, Connect Helpers has raised more than 15k HKD in donations given to the Harmony Baptist Church and Pathfinders including countless supply drives for items such as toys, clothes, and blankets.

WORKSHOPS
Our goal for connect helpers is to create a welcoming community domestic helpers and asylum seekers are able to rely on established through community building workshops. Due to local coronavirus restrictions this has not been possible for us this year, however we aim to make this happen in the months to come.

Such workshops would include cooking classes, child playgroups, and mother and child bonding sessions.
FOOD DONATION DROP-OFF
Connect Helpers has also organised a food supply drive in order to provide these migrant women with the necessary food and snacks needed in their household.
Asylum seekers in Hong Kong constantly stress about having enough money to purchase food for all meals of the day with the minimal value of
40 HKD received daily. It is especially hard for families with children that have the increased stress of not only fulfilling personal dietary needs but that of their child.
Through the kind of food donations we received, these women are able to feel relief knowing they have food at home. The smile on their faces is truly heartwarming and goes to show how small acts of kindness can go a long way.
